Xray Strategy Game Quick Start
To download the free version, do the following

Download the basic engine (100MB)

Download the LZ Xray Campaign (2.2MB)
H ere are the basics you need to know to play the LZ
X-ray Campaign. Obviously, it would be better if you took
your time, read the manual inside the WinSPMBT game and then
play the tutorial.
We recommend you print this page so you can use it as a
reference. Please take into consideration that although
the following "Quick Start Guide" may seem like a lot to
remember the first couple of times, it will become second nature
as you use the game.
After you download the files, you must install them in your
computer. Simply click on the self-extract installer for
each and follow the instructions. Remember to install them
in order!
After you install the game, click the game icon on your
desktop screen (WinSPMBT icon) and the Game Options menu will
appear. This is where you set preferences / parameters for
playing the WinSPMBT game using the Misc Menu selection.
The on-line manual is available from the help menu.
When you are satisfied with the settings, click the selection
"Play WinSPMBT" (located in the main menu).
After a few seconds the screen will display the WinSPMBT logo
and show the WinSPMBT scenario menu.
From here you can choose to play the first selection on the
scenario list (000 WinSPMBT Tutorial Scenario - recommended) or
you may proceed to the Lz Xray campaign.
These steps cover the initial assault into Xray. In
this first battle the player won't engage in any combat and will
have enough free time to get used with the game mechanisms
(testing unit's movement, how to load/unload helicopters, how to
assign artillery mission, how to attack a hex with the use of
"Z" key, how to do a lot of actions). The webmaster is
learning this right along with you - as I get familiar with it,
I'll post an update to the quick start.
To start the Lz Xray campaign:
1. Press the Campaign big grey button located in the bottom
of this menu.
2. From the Campaign Menu, select the campaign with the title
"1st CAV DIV : LZ X-ray" (slot 005).
3. Press the "START" button (located at the bottom of the
Campaign menu).
4. The Xray campaign will load and show you text related to
the campaign. Read it and press the start button.
5. Following the normal sequence, the simulation takes you to
the force selection screen. However, since everything is
set according to historical settings, you can ignore this and
simply click the "DONE" button.
6. The next menu is the deployment menu, where you must
decide what mode of campaign you wish to play.
First select and click the "HUMAN DEPLOY" button. This opens the
deployment map where you need to deploy your unit close to the
desired VP location (flag with V). Take your time and read the
description associated with each flag.
Click on your unit and then deploy your unit left of the grey
boundary line, as close as possible to the VP location you
selected. After you deploy your unit on the map, click the "RED
ARROW" (pointing up) Button to leave this screen. When the new
menu is presented, click on "Quit Deploy".
7. In the next menu, click on the "Start Turn" button and
then click your unit. Move your unit into the desired VP flag
hex by left clicking on top of this hex (your unit will perform
movement towards that hex). After that, simply click the button
with a "Blue Arrow" (pointing right) in order to quit the "Order
Phase". You will be prompted to confirm (press "Y" to confirm).
This will end turn 1 and start turn 2. Again hit the "Blue
Arrow" to end turn 2.
8. The system will show you a battle report screen (simply
hit the "Continue" button).
9. Next, it will show the combat results (hit the "GO ON"
button).
10. Next you will be taken into the save game screen, where
you may save your current progress by selecting an empty slot
and press "ENTER".
11. The next screen is the Campaign Summary screen where you
must select and click the "Continue" button.
12. Next screen is the opening screen for the first
(training) battle for the LZ X-ray campaign. After you read the
text, select and click the start button.
13. In the next "force list" menu, simply hit the "CONTINUE"
button.
14. In the next "SELECT FORMATION" menu hit the "DONE" button
(same with step No 5).
15. Now press the Human deploy, select your unit and deploy
it to the suggested location.
16. Follow step 5 and step 6, and then start the game. In
this first scenario, you will have the opportunity to get used
to the game. Just try to allocate Artillery missions (using the
artillery menu), try to load/unload units in the helicopters
(will arrive as reinforcements; you should also experiment with
the three altitude modes), try to attack a hex with direct fire
(use the Z key) and finally try to contest the VP locations
inside the LZ Xray location by simply moving there your UH-1D
helicopters and unload them (change the altitude to "landed").
For a better understanding of the game mechanics, you should
really read the manual and play the tutorial.
